The Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) is a voluntary credential from AFP that shows you have solid skills in managing cash, risk and financing. It is not required to work in Canada, but it can help you stand out in treasury roles.
Official website ↗The CTP is an international credential that is earned and used in Canada. It covers the core work of treasury, such as cash management, short-term investing, borrowing, risk management and working with banks.
No law or licensing body requires you to hold the CTP. Employers often see it as proof that you know current treasury practice. It can be useful for treasury analysts, corporate treasurers and treasurers in specialized industries such as aviation. It can also help career changers from accounting or finance show they are serious about moving into treasury.
The CTP exam is a written, multiple-choice test taken on a computer. It covers topics such as treasury operations, cash and liquidity, financial risk, capital markets, working capital and technology. Many candidates study for a few months while working.
The CTP is not for life. To keep it current, you need to complete continuing education in treasury-related topics and pay a recertification fee within the renewal cycle set by AFP. Keep records of the courses and events you attend, since you may need to show them when you renew.
