Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

When you create an account on CareerLookAI, we collect the following information:

  • Account information — first name, last name, email address and education level provided at registration, and your birth month and year only if you choose to add them later in your account
  • Saved careers — careers you choose to save to your account
  • Job search queries — search terms entered in the Jobs Portal (sent to our job-listing provider to find matching jobs)
  • Career submissions — if you submit a career via the Career Explorer, we store the career name as you typed it and a rate-limiting identifier. We do not store your full IP address. We keep requests we could not accept as well as those we could, together with the reason they were declined — for example that the career is already listed, or is not one we can add — so that we have a record of what people have asked for. A request we could not accept is never linked to your account, even if you were signed in.
  • Career requests linked to your account. If you ask us to add a career while you are signed in, we link that request to your account so that we can send you one email when the career is added. We store only your account identifier alongside the career name — never a separate copy of your email address, which is read from your account at the moment the email is sent. You are not emailed if the career is not added, and if you are not signed in when you ask, nothing is linked to you at all. If you delete your account, this link is deleted with it.
  • AI chat conversations — messages you send to our AI counselor are sent to our AI provider so that it can write an answer. We do not keep your conversations. The one exception is a message that our automatic check flags as abusive: we keep a copy of that message (up to its first 2,000 characters), together with your account and email address if you are signed in, so that we can review it. A flagged message is not sent to our AI provider.
  • How you found us. If you arrived from one of our advertisements or a marked link, we store which campaign it was on your account — the advertising source, medium, campaign and creative, plus the date. This is campaign information, not information about you: it contains no identifier for you or for the click, and it is recorded once when the account is created and never updated afterwards.
  • ZIP code (optional). If you choose to provide one, we use it only to show schools and opportunities near you. It is never required, you can remove it at any time from your dashboard, and leaving it blank does not limit any other feature.
  • Google account information (if you sign in with Google). If you choose “Sign in with Google” rather than creating a password, Google shares your name, your email address and whether Google has verified it, a link to your Google profile photo, and a Google account identifier that lets us recognise you when you return. We request only Google’s basic profile and email permissions, so we receive nothing else from your Google account — no contacts, no calendar, no Drive files, and no access to any other Google service. This information is stored by our database and sign-in provider on the same terms as the account information above, is used only to sign you in and to greet you by name, and is never sold or shared with advertisers. You can revoke our access at any time from your Google account permissions page, and you can delete your account and its data as described in section 10.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and personalize our career guidance services
  • To maintain your saved careers and account preferences
  • To process job searches on your behalf
  • To communicate with you about your account
  • To improve our platform and user experience

3. Data Storage & Security

Your account data is stored securely by our database and sign-in provider, in a database hosted in the United States. Sign-in is handled by the same provider with industry-standard encryption. We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data, but no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

4. Third-Party Services

We use trusted third-party services to power features on this site. These services may receive limited data necessary to perform their function — for example, your search terms are sent to our job search provider when you use the Jobs Portal, and your chat messages are processed by our AI provider. We do not sell your personal data to any third party, and we only share data with third parties to the extent necessary to provide our services.

Our key service providers include: our database and sign-in provider (account data storage and authentication), our AI provider (AI guidance chat), our job-listing provider (job listings), our location-search service (location search), our payment processor (payment processing), our email delivery provider (transactional email), our error-reporting service (error reporting), our hosting provider (website hosting), and Google (fonts, Google Analytics, Google Ads measurement, and sign-in authentication if you choose it). You can ask us which service providers we use by contacting us through our inquiry form.

Error reporting. If a page on this site runs into a programming error in your browser, the page sends a short error report to our own server, which passes it to our error-reporting service, which we use to find and fix errors. This happens without asking first, because it is needed to keep the site working, and it sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. Your browser never connects to that service directly. A report contains only: the kind of error and its message (with email addresses and similar details removed), the file names and line numbers in our code where it happened, the address of the page without anything after a “?” or “#”, and a general description of your browser and device, such as “Chrome 129, phone”. It never contains your name, email address, account, IP address, cookies, information stored in your browser, what you type into forms or the chat, the page you came from, or your browser’s full identifying string. Only errors in our own code are reported, at most three per page you open.

5. Advertising & Third-Party Cookies

We do not currently show advertisements on this site. If we start showing ads, we will update this policy first.

  • Until you choose Accept on our cookie banner, we tell Google’s tags, through Google Consent Mode, that advertising cookies and advertising identifiers are not allowed. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control, they stay not allowed (see section 6).
  • You may opt out of personalized advertising from Google by visiting Google's Ads Settings.
  • You can opt out of many third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info/choices or optout.networkadvertising.org.

6. Advertising Measurement & Conversion Tracking

We advertise CareerLookAI through Google Ads, and we measure whether those advertisements are effective. To do this we use conversion tracking from Google Ads (sign-up measurement). It is only activated after you choose Accept on our cookie banner, and never if your browser sends Global Privacy Control. If you decline, or do not respond to the banner, no sign-up is reported to Google Ads.

  • Google Ads sign-up measurement. When someone creates an account after choosing Accept, our page tells Google Ads once that a sign-up happened, with a fixed nominal value, so that we can see which of our Google ads lead to sign-ups. It sends no name, email address or other account details, and Google’s “enhanced conversions” feature, which would send a hashed email address, is switched off.
  • Never for known under-18 users. If you have added a birthday to your account that shows you are under 18, no sign-up is reported to Google Ads, even if you accepted cookies.
  • “Sharing” under U.S. state privacy laws. Some U.S. state privacy laws treat giving identifiers to an advertising platform for this kind of measurement as “sharing” personal information (and some as a “sale”), even when no money changes hands. We treat our advertising measurement as sharing. That is why it runs only after you choose Accept, why you can withdraw that choice at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of our pages, and why we honour Global Privacy Control.
  • Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a Decline for everything described in this section and in section 7, even if you chose Accept before: nothing is reported to Google Ads, and we do not show you the cookie banner.
  • How to opt out. Choose Decline on our banner, or reopen it with the Cookie settings link and change your choice. A Decline takes effect at once for anything new; reload the page to switch off anything that had already started on it. If you have an account with an advertising platform, you can also manage how it uses your information for advertising in that account’s privacy settings. Opting out does not affect your ability to use CareerLookAI.

We do not use conversion tracking to build profiles about you for any purpose other than measuring advertising effectiveness, and we do not sell your personal data.

7. Site Analytics (First-Party)

We keep our own record of how the site is used, so we can see which careers and universities people find useful and where our visitors come from. Like the advertising technologies above, this is only active if you accept cookies on our banner, and never if your browser sends Global Privacy Control. If you decline, or have not yet responded, no identifier is created and no usage is recorded.

Separately, unless your browser sends Global Privacy Control, we count page loads without cookies or identifiers (the page, the referring site or ad source, and your device type) to measure traffic; nothing is stored on your device and no personal data is collected.

  • What we record. The page visited, the career, university or certification name when applicable, whether you arrived from a campaign link, your device category (mobile, tablet, or desktop), and the domain that referred you. We also record which features of the site are used (for example, that a search box, a filter, the debt calculator, a comparison, the AI counselor or a share button was used), but never what you type into them: no search text, no amounts and no chat messages.
  • How you are identified. By a randomly generated identifier stored in your browser. It is not derived from your name, email, or any other personal detail, and it is not shared with anyone. If you are signed in, the record is also linked to your account.
  • What we deliberately do not store. We do not record your IP address or your browser's user agent string in our analytics, and we store only the domain of a referring site rather than the full referring address.
  • Where it goes. This data stays in our own database and is visible only to site administrators. It is not sold, and it is not shared with advertising networks.
  • How to opt out. Choose Decline on our banner, or change your choice at any time with the Cookie settings link. Clearing your browser's site data for CareerLookAI removes the identifier.

8. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us through our inquiry form. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.

9. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

CareerLookAI is a general-audience site for people 13 years of age and older. You do not need to give us your birthday to create an account. We ask for your birth month and year only for features that depend on age — currently, making a donation, which requires you to be 18 or older — and you can add it in your account if you want to use one. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If a birthday added to an account shows that its owner is under 13, or if we otherwise learn that a child under 13 has created an account, we close the account and delete its associated data. If a birthday shows that an account’s owner is under 18, no sign-up is reported to Google Ads for that account, even if cookies were accepted (see section 6). If you believe a child under 13 has registered, please contact us through our inquiry form.

10. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights under applicable privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA, and other applicable state laws) including:

  • Right to access the personal data we hold about you
  • Right to correct inaccurate data
  • Right to request deletion of your data
  • Right to data portability
  • Right to opt out of certain data processing

To exercise any of these rights, contact us through our inquiry form.

11. Changes to This Policy

We will update this Privacy Policy as our practices evolve. Material changes will be noted with an updated "Last updated" date at the top of this section. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

12. If You Are in Canada

This section applies to people in Canada and adds to the rest of this policy. Where they differ, this section applies to you.

Who is responsible. CareerLookAI LLC is responsible for the personal information described here. Questions, requests and complaints go to us through our contact form.

What we collect and why. If you create an account we collect your name, email address and education level, and, only if you give them, your postal code and your birth month and year. We use them to run your account, to keep the careers, schools and certifications you save, and to show your details to you in your dashboard. Your postal code is kept with your account and shown in your dashboard; the Canadian pages do not use it for anything else at present, and you can change or remove it there at any time. We do not sell your personal information.

Consent. We ask for your consent when you create an account. You can withdraw it at any time by asking us, through our contact form, to delete your account; some account information may be kept for a short time where the law requires it.

Where your information is stored. Our service providers store and process information outside Canada, mainly in the United States: our database and sign-in provider (account storage and sign-in), our hosting provider (website hosting), our email delivery provider (email), our AI provider (the AI counselor: the messages you send it), our error-reporting service (error reports, described in section 4), and Google (sign-in, if you choose it; Google Analytics, if you accept cookies; and, on our United States pages only and if you accept cookies, Google Ads sign-up measurement, described in section 6). While it is outside Canada, your information is subject to the laws of the country where it is held, and the courts, law enforcement and national security authorities of that country may be able to obtain it.

Advertising on the Canadian pages. The Canadian pages (the addresses that begin careerlook.ai/ca/) show no advertisements, and an account created on a Canadian page is not reported to Google Ads as a sign-up.

Your rights. You may ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account, through our contact form; you can also correct your name, education level and postal code yourself in your dashboard. We will answer within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca).

How long we keep it. For as long as your account is open. When we delete your account at your request, we delete it together with its saved careers, schools and certifications and its email preferences, within 30 days.

Age. CareerLookAI accounts are for people 13 and older. If a birthday added to an account shows that its owner is under 13, or we otherwise learn that an account belongs to someone under 13, we close the account and delete its information.

Email. We send you account email (for example, a welcome message, a link to confirm your address, or a password reset). We send news and offers only if you have asked for them by ticking the box in your dashboard, and every such email carries an unsubscribe link. An unsubscribe takes effect as soon as you use the link, well within the 10 business days Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation allows.

Cookie Policy

This Cookie Policy explains how CareerLookAI uses cookies and similar browser storage technologies. We keep this simple.

What We Use Cookies For

We use these kinds of storage on your device:

  • Essential cookies — keep you logged in and remember your preferences, including your cookie choice. These are required for the site to work and cannot be turned off.
  • Performance cookies — temporarily cache career and university data so pages load faster. No personal information is stored in these caches.
  • Analytics and advertising-measurement cookies — set only after you choose Accept on our banner, and never if your browser sends Global Privacy Control: our own analytics identifier (Privacy Policy section 7), and those of Google (Google Analytics and Google Ads measurement; Privacy Policy section 6).
  • Advertising served on this site — none at present.

Third-Party Services

We use trusted third-party services to power features on this site, including our database and sign-in provider (account storage and sign-in), our hosting provider (website hosting), our AI provider (AI chat), Google (fonts, Google Analytics, Google Ads measurement, and sign-in if you choose it), our payment processor (payments), our email delivery provider (email), our job-listing provider (job listings), our location-search service (location search) and our error-reporting service (error reporting, which sets no cookies). You can ask us which service providers we use by contacting us through our inquiry form.

Analytics and advertising-measurement cookies — including those set by Google — are only placed after you choose Accept on our banner, and never if your browser sends Global Privacy Control. If you decline, or have not yet responded, Google’s tags are told that no cookies are allowed. Cookies that are strictly necessary for the site to function (such as keeping you signed in) are always active, as the site cannot operate without them.

You can change your choice at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of our pages, which reopens the cookie banner so you can choose Accept or Decline again. A Decline takes effect at once for anything new; reload the page to switch off anything that had already started on it. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control, there is nothing to choose: we already treat you as having declined, and the link says so.

You can also clear cookies and browser storage at any time through your browser settings. Doing so will log you out of your account but will not affect your ability to use the site.

Your Consent

By clicking "Accept" on our cookie banner, you consent to the use of cookies as described above. You can withdraw that consent at any time with Cookie settings. Essential cookies are always active when you use an account — they are required for login functionality to work.
