CPHIMS is a voluntary international credential for people who work with health information and technology systems. It is not required to work in Canada, but it can help you stand out as a clinical informatics specialist.
Official website ↗CPHIMS stands for Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems. It is issued by HIMSS, an international organization focused on health information and technology. The credential shows that you understand how health data, clinical workflows and technology fit together.
Nobody in Canada needs CPHIMS to get a job or to practise. Employers may still value it, especially for roles that connect clinical teams with technology teams. A clinical informatics specialist, for example, helps hospitals and clinics make better use of electronic records and other digital tools. This credential can back up your skills and show a commitment to the field.
The exam is a written, multiple-choice test. It covers topics such as health information systems, data and analytics, privacy and security, project and change management, and how technology supports patient care. You receive a result after you finish.
CPHIMS must be renewed to stay active. You keep it current by earning continuing education credits over each renewal period and paying a renewal fee. Many people count their regular work, training and professional development toward these credits.
