The Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence is a voluntary credential from ASQ for people who lead quality work in an organization. It is not required to work in Canada, but it can help you stand out when you apply for quality leadership roles.
Official website ↗This credential shows that you understand how to lead quality and improvement efforts across a whole organization. It covers leadership, strategic planning, managing quality systems, using data to make decisions, and guiding teams through change. It is earned through a professional body, not through a government licence.
It is an international credential, and people earn it and use it in Canada. It suits quality assurance managers and quality control managers, as well as experienced staff who want to move into those roles. Employers in manufacturing, health care, food production, logistics and other sectors may value it, but no employer or regulator requires it for general quality work.
The exam is a written test made up of multiple-choice questions. It covers leadership, strategy, quality management systems, improvement methods and the use of data. Questions often ask you to apply ideas to workplace situations, so hands-on experience helps as much as study.
The credential must be renewed on a regular cycle. You keep it active by recording ongoing professional activities, such as work experience, training, and contributions to the field, and by paying a renewal fee. Check ASQ for the current renewal rules.
