The College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (COMP) was founded in 1977 and is the founding college of Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California. It was the first osteopathic medical school established in California in decades and grants the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree, with a strong emphasis on primary care, whole-person patient care, and osteopathic manipulative medicine. COMP is accredited by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation and has built a reputation for producing physicians who serve diverse and underserved communities across the western United States.
Students at COMP learn within WesternU's interprofessional education model, training alongside students in pharmacy, physical therapy, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and other health professions. The campus is compact and collaborative, with small-group learning, simulation centers, and early clinical exposure. A satellite program, COMP-Northwest, in Lebanon, Oregon extends the college's reach to the Pacific Northwest, and rotations occur at affiliated hospitals and clinics throughout the West.
