The University of North Texas at Dallas College of Law opened in 2014 as the first public law school in the Dallas–Fort Worth area and the only one operated by a public university in North Texas. Housed in the historic Dallas Municipal Building downtown, it received provisional ABA approval in 2016 and full ABA accreditation in 2019. The school was created to expand affordable legal education and to serve the legal needs of a diverse and growing region, and it is known for its low tuition, public-service mission, and emphasis on skills training.
The College of Law offers full-time day and part-time evening programs, which attract many working professionals and nontraditional students. Its location steps from courts, law firms, and government offices gives students extensive externship, clinic, and networking opportunities. The student body is notably diverse, and the school emphasizes experiential learning, bar preparation support, and community-oriented clinics. Small class sizes and an accessible faculty give the school a close-knit, supportive culture.
