The School of Nursing and Health Studies (SONHS) was founded in 1948 as the School of Nursing at the University of Miami and has grown into one of the leading nursing and health sciences schools in the Southeast. Its programs span undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels, and it is known for strong graduate programs, nurse practitioner and nurse anesthesia tracks, and research focused on health disparities and community health. The school is housed within a major private research university and benefits from close affiliations with UHealth and Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Students train in a diverse, multicultural South Florida setting, with an emphasis on Hispanic and Caribbean health and global health issues. The Simulation Hospital, a state-of-the-art facility, gives students extensive hands-on practice before and alongside clinical rotations. Undergraduates join a vibrant campus in Coral Gables with Division I athletics and extensive student organizations, while graduate students often balance coursework with clinical practice. Offerings include BSN, health science, public health, and online and hybrid graduate options.
