Overview
Established in 1993 as part of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), the Graduate School of Nursing was created to address the military's need for advanced practice nurses and nurse leaders capable of serving in combat and humanitarian settings worldwide. Renamed in 2011 to honor Senator Daniel K. Inouye, a decorated World War II veteran, the school has built a distinctive reputation for training nurse anesthetists, family nurse practitioners, and nurse executives who serve across the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Public Health Service. Its programs are tuition-free for military officers, funded by the Department of Defense, and graduates incur an active-duty service commitment.
