Founded in 1811 and re-established in 1972, the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University is the medical school of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. It was renamed in 2007 following a $100 million gift from philanthropist Warren Alpert. The school is known for its early emphasis on clinical training, humanistic approach to medicine, and its Program in Liberal Medical Education (PLME), an eight-year combined BS/MD track.
The school's student body is small and collaborative, with a pass/fail-oriented, wellness-conscious culture and strong mentorship. Clinical training takes place across Brown-affiliated hospitals including Rhode Island Hospital, The Miriam Hospital, Women & Infants Hospital, Hasbro Children's Hospital, and the Providence VA Medical Center. Distinctive strengths include primary care, global health, population health, and combined degree options such as MD/PhD, MD/MPH, and MD/MBA.
