Santiago Canyon College was founded in 1985 as Santiago Canyon College's predecessor, the Orange Education Center, and achieved full accreditation as an independent college in 2000. It is part of the Rancho Santiago Community College District, along with Santa Ana College. SCC is best known for its high transfer rates to University of California and California State University campuses, its honors program, and its supportive, small-college feel within a large public system.
The campus sits on a hillside in the city of Orange, offering views of the surrounding foothills and a quieter, more intimate environment than many community colleges. Students benefit from smaller class sizes, an active honors program, the Transfer Center, and robust student services including tutoring, counseling, and career support. Student life includes numerous clubs, athletics, the Chaparral Gallery, and the Planetarium, and the college serves a diverse mix of recent high school graduates, working adults, and returning students.
