NASCAR Technical Institute (NASCAR Tech) opened in 2002 in Mooresville, North Carolina, as a partnership between Universal Technical Institute (UTI) and NASCAR. It grew out of UTI's long-running transportation technician training model, adding a motorsports curriculum built around the needs of racing teams and the broader performance-vehicle industry. Programs are non-degree or associate-level and are known for shop-based instruction, industry-standard equipment, and close ties to the Charlotte-area racing community.
The campus sits in Mooresville, a region often called Race City USA because it is home to dozens of NASCAR teams and suppliers. Students spend most of their time in labs and shops working on engines, chassis, fabrication, welding, and diagnostics. The student experience is career-focused and fast-paced, with short program lengths, manufacturer and team partnerships, and employer visits. Instruction is practical rather than research-oriented, with an emphasis on getting graduates into technician roles.
