Founded in 1823 as the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, MCPHS is one of the oldest institutions of pharmacy education in the United States. Over two centuries it has grown from a single-focus pharmacy school into a multi-campus university offering programs across the health sciences, including nursing, dental hygiene, physician assistant studies, optometry, and public health. The university renamed itself MCPHS University in 2012 and is best known for its pharmacy programs and strong ties to Boston's world-renowned hospital and biotech community.
MCPHS has campuses in Boston, Worcester, and Manchester, New Hampshire, with a close-knit, career-focused student culture centered on health professions. Students benefit from experiential learning, clinical rotations, and partnerships with the Longwood Medical Area's hospitals and research institutions. The Boston campus offers an urban setting with limited traditional campus amenities, and student life revolves around professional organizations, service, and interprofessional collaboration.
