The DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (DCOM) was founded in 2007 as part of Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee, and enrolled its first class in 2007 with a mission to address physician shortages in Appalachia and rural America. Named for benefactor Dr. Ray DeBusk, the college is accredited by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) and awards the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree. It is known for its strong emphasis on primary care, rural medicine, and a high rate of graduates matching into residencies, many of them in family medicine, internal medicine, and pediatrics.
Students experience a small-town, close-knit environment in the Cumberland Gap region, with a curriculum that blends basic sciences, clinical skills, and osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM). DCOM operates a main campus in Harrogate and an additional campus in Knoxville, Tennessee, plus a Lake Erie-area partnership offering via LMU. Clinical rotations take place across a wide network of hospitals and community clinics in Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, and beyond, giving students extensive hands-on exposure to rural and underserved populations.
