Overview

Founded in 1894 as the Indianapolis College of Law and later merged into Indiana University in 1944, the school was renamed in 2011 in honor of alumnus and benefactor Robert H. McKinney. It is the largest law school in Indiana and is ABA-accredited, offering the JD, several LLM and MLS degrees, and a range of joint degrees. The school is known for its strengths in health law, intellectual property, business and tax law, and international and comparative law.

Located on the IUPUI (IU Indianapolis) campus just blocks from the Indiana Statehouse, federal and state courts, and major law firms, McKinney Law offers students exceptional access to externships, clerkships, and legal employers. The student body is notably diverse and includes a large proportion of part-time and evening students. Clinical programs, pro bono opportunities, a strong alumni network across Indiana, and a lower cost relative to private peers make it a practical pathway into the Midwest legal market.
