Overview
Governors State University was founded in 1969 as an upper-division and graduate institution designed to serve transfer students and working adults in Chicago's south suburbs. In 1995 it transitioned to a comprehensive four-year university with a full undergraduate program, and it has since grown into a regional hub for accessible, career-focused higher education. GSU is particularly known for its nursing, education, and social work programs, as well as its strong ties to community colleges throughout the south Chicago metropolitan region.
