Colorado State University Pueblo traces its roots to 1933, when it opened as Pueblo Junior College. It evolved through several names, including Southern Colorado State College and University of Southern Colorado, before joining the Colorado State University System in 2003 and adopting its current name in 2005. It is a regional comprehensive university best known for its programs in engineering, nursing, business, and mass communications, and it holds designation as a Hispanic-Serving Institution.
The campus sits on the eastern edge of Pueblo, with the Rocky Mountains visible to the west, and offers a close-knit, accessible environment with small class sizes. Students benefit from personalized attention, strong ties to regional employers, and the nationally recognized Fowler School of Engineering and Hasan School of Business. As an NCAA Division II school, the ThunderWolves provide an active athletic scene, and the university serves a large share of first-generation, transfer, and military-connected students.
