Overview

The California University of Science and Medicine School of Medicine (CUSM-SOM) was founded in 2008 as the California University of Science and Medicine and welcomed its first MD class in 2018. It is one of the newer allopathic medical schools in California and received full LCME accreditation in 2022. The school was created to address physician shortages in the Inland Empire, one of the most medically underserved regions in the state, and emphasizes primary care and service to the community.

The campus in Colton, California, is built around a modern medical education facility with simulation labs, an anatomy suite, and integrated clinical training at the adjacent Arrowhead Regional Medical Center and partner hospitals. Students experience small class sizes, early clinical exposure, and a curriculum that blends biomedical science with clinical skills, medical humanities, and community engagement. The culture is collaborative and service-oriented, with strong faculty mentorship and a diverse student body drawn heavily from Southern California.
