The Louise Herrington School of Nursing (LHSON) traces its roots to 1909, when Baylor University's nursing program began at the Baylor Hospital in Dallas, and it has been part of the Baylor University system since 1950. It is named for Louise Herrington Ornelas, whose major gift supported the school and its modern facility. The school is known for high NCLEX-RN pass rates, strong ties to Dallas-area health systems, and a mission of preparing nurses to serve with Christian compassion.
Students complete their first two years on the Waco campus and then move to the Dallas campus for the upper-division nursing curriculum, in a cohort-based, small-class environment. The Dallas campus is adjacent to Baylor University Medical Center and offers simulation labs, clinical placements in many health settings, and global health and mission opportunities. The school also offers MSN, DNP, and PhD pathways, and graduates are highly sought after by hospitals across Texas.
